Appeals against editorial decisions
- Authors who believe a decision was wrong may appeal once, within 30 days of the decision, by writing to [email protected].
- The appeal explains why the decision should be reconsidered, for example a factual error by a reviewer, a misunderstanding of the work or a conflict of interest. It replies to the reviewers' comments point by point and may include new evidence. Disagreement alone is not grounds for appeal.
- The appeal is handled by an editor who was not involved in the original decision. This editor may ask for another independent review.
- The authors are told the outcome and the reasons. The decision on the appeal is final.
While an appeal is being considered, the manuscript must not be submitted elsewhere.
Complaints
Anyone may complain about the journal's processes, its editors or staff, delays, or published content.
- Send the complaint to [email protected] with the details and any evidence.
- The complaint is acknowledged within five working days.
- It is investigated by someone not involved in the matter, normally within 30 days, following the relevant COPE flowchart.
- The complainant is told the outcome and any action taken.
