Journal Law and Justice is committed to the highest standards of publication ethics. The journal follows the Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), its flowcharts and guidance, and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing shared by COPE, DOAJ, OASPA and WAME. Editors, reviewers, authors and the publisher, PT Media Jurnal dan Pendidikan, share responsibility for the integrity of the scholarly record.

This page sets out what each party can expect from the others and what is expected of them. The detailed policies linked from it (authorship, peer review, conflicts of interest, research ethics, data, corrections, complaints and misconduct) form part of this statement.

Duties of editors

  • Decide on manuscripts solely on their scholarly merit: importance, originality, validity of the methods, clarity and relevance to the journal's aims and scope.
  • Treat every author fairly, without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnic origin, citizenship, institution, seniority or political views.
  • Keep every submission and every review confidential, and never use unpublished material for their own research without the author's written consent.
  • Declare any conflict of interest and step aside from a manuscript where one exists; another editor then handles it.
  • Make sure peer review is fair, unbiased and timely, and that reviewers are qualified and free of conflicts.
  • Publish clear guidance for authors and reviewers, and keep the journal's policies up to date.
  • Respond to complaints and allegations of misconduct following COPE flowcharts, and publish corrections, expressions of concern or retractions when needed.
  • Make sure editorial decisions are never influenced by publication fees, advertising, sponsors or the publisher's commercial interests.

Duties of reviewers

  • Help the editor reach a decision and help authors improve their work with objective, constructive and well-argued comments.
  • Accept only manuscripts they have the expertise to assess and can review on time; notify the editor promptly when they cannot.
  • Treat the manuscript and all related material as confidential: do not share, discuss or use it, and do not contact the authors directly.
  • Declare any conflict of interest (personal, financial, institutional or intellectual) and decline when it could affect their judgement.
  • Avoid personal criticism; comments should be about the work, not the authors.
  • Point out relevant published work that has not been cited, and alert the editor to any substantial similarity with other work or any suspected ethical problem.

Duties of authors

  • Submit original work that has not been published before and is not under consideration elsewhere, and report their research honestly and accurately.
  • Cite the work of others correctly and obtain permission to reproduce material they do not own.
  • List as authors all those, and only those, who meet the authorship criteria, and agree on the author order before submission.
  • Disclose all sources of funding and every potential conflict of interest.
  • Obtain ethical approval and informed consent where the research requires it, and state this in the manuscript.
  • Make data available as described in the data policy and keep the raw data for a reasonable period after publication.
  • Take part in peer review constructively, and tell the editor promptly about any significant error they find in their submitted or published work.

Duties of the publisher

  • Support the editors' independence and never interfere with editorial decisions.
  • Provide the infrastructure for peer review, publication, long-term preservation and persistent identifiers.
  • Work with the editors to investigate misconduct and to publish corrections and retractions.

Anyone, including readers, can report suspected plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, image manipulation, duplicate publication, citation manipulation, authorship disputes or undisclosed conflicts of interest to [email protected].
