At a glance
- Each issue may use its own template; the buttons below always give the current version.
- Upload the manuscript as a Word file (.docx) written in the template.
- Keep the template's styles: headings, captions and references are read from them.
The template sets the layout, headings, citation style and the information the editors need. A manuscript written in it can go to the reviewers and to production without being reformatted, so it moves faster through every step.

The template of an issue can change between issues. Download it again before every new submission.
How to use it
- Download the template of the issue you are submitting to.
- Replace the example text with your own, section by section. Do not delete the styles; apply them to your text.
- Enter every author with affiliation, country and e-mail address in the author block.
- Put figures and tables where they belong, each with a numbered caption.
- Format the references in the style of the template, preferably with a reference manager.
- Save the file as .docx and upload it when you submit the manuscript.
Checklist before uploading
- The title, abstract and keywords match what you enter in the submission form.
- Every figure and table is cited in the text.
- Every reference in the text is in the reference list, and the other way round.
- Declarations (conflicts of interest, funding, contributions, ethics approval) are filled in.
- Author names and affiliations are in the file: the anonymous copy for the reviewers is made by the editorial system.
Need help?
If you prefer, the journal's author services can move an existing manuscript into the template for you. This is optional and has no influence on the review. Questions about the template can be sent to [email protected]. The complete rules for manuscripts are in the author guidelines.
